How to Play Around the Clock
- Start at 1 – The first player throws 3 darts, trying to hit the number 1. Any part of the 1 segment counts (single, double, or triple).
- Progress in order – Once you hit 1, you move to 2 on your next turn. You must hit each number in sequence — no skipping ahead.
- Use all three darts – If you hit your target number with your first dart, you can immediately aim for the next number with your remaining darts.
- Finish on Bull – After hitting 20, you must hit the bullseye (outer or inner) to win.
- First to finish wins – The player who completes 1-20 and Bull first is the winner!
💡 Speed Tip
Good players can complete Around the Clock in 10-15 darts. Time yourself and try to beat your personal best!

Popular Variations
Once you’ve mastered the basic game, try these twists:
Doubles Only
You must hit the double segment of each number to progress. Much harder and excellent practice for checkouts!
Triples Only
Only triple hits count. A serious challenge even for experienced players.
Reverse Clock
Start at 20 and work backwards to 1, then Bull. Changes the feel completely!
Shanghai
All players throw at the same number each round. Hit single, double, AND triple in one turn to win instantly.
Why Around the Clock is Great Practice
This simple game is secretly one of the best training tools for improving your darts:
- Board coverage — Forces you to hit every segment, not just T20
- Accuracy under pressure — You can’t move on until you hit the target
- Reveals weaknesses — Notice which numbers consistently slow you down
- Builds confidence — Completing the circuit feels like an achievement
Many pro players use Around the Clock as part of their warm-up routine. If you’re stuck on a particular number regularly, that’s a sign you need to practice that area of the board more.
